calendarEDISON — The Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County has announced a variety of spring events, including programs about music, managing stress, defensive driving, and bridge.

Music

“Music and Events of the 1950s” as presented by David Aaron will take place on Tuesday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison. The cost is $11; $8 for Community Campus members. Contact Sue Horwitz , 1-732-494-3232 for information.

Thomas Elefant, conductor and music educator, will discuss “The Sinatra Influence” on Tuesday, April 23 at 1:30 p.m. Discover the unique qualities that made Frank Sinatra the legend he is and explore his singing style that influenced Pop, Rock, Rappers and Hip-Hop. Stress – You Can Manage It!

Learn the dangers of unmanaged stress and develop easy techniques to help manage everyday stress. Frank Mathews, of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway, will share his expertise and enthusiasm. Offered on Tuesday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the JCC of Middlesex county, 1775 Oak Tree Road Edison, this program is free and open to the entire community as space permits. Historical Trivia

On Tuesday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m., Dr. James Kane will present Interesting Facts of the American Story at the JCC of Middlesex County, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison. “Which college did Thomas Jefferson attend? Which Louis is St. Louis named for? And “Why do all the raves at Normandy Beach face west?” These are a few of the interesting bits of information to be revealed! After The Elections: What Path Is Israel On Now?

Dr. Gilbert Kahn, Professor of Political Science at Kean University will help to sort out the future challenges faced by the Jewish State on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 10:30am. This program, to be held at the JCC of Middlesex County, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison is offered free and to the entire community as space allows. Peri Smilow Celebrates Yom Ha’atzmaut In Concert

Come together on Tuesday, April 16 at 1 p.m. for a hour of entertainment at the JCC, 1775, Oak Tree Road, Edison. A concert with Peri Smilow means an afternoon of sing-a-long and fun. Peri’s music is thought provoking, spiritually uplifting and socially relevant. Audiences leave humming her music and ready to engage more fully in tikkun olam, the repair of the world. Free and to the entire community as space allows. Advanced registration is required in person or by calling 1-732-494-3232.

AARP Defensive Driving Course

Held on Mondays, April 29 and May 6  from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the JCC, 1775 Oak Tree Road, participants must attend both Defensive Driving classes to receive certificate of completion. Only checks, ($12 for AARP members, $14 for non-AARP members), payable to AARP will be accepted. Contact a JCC Front Desk Associate, 732-494-3232, to register.

Bridge

Duplicate Bridge is held every Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County, Edison. Directed by Al Steinberger, you are welcome to come by yourself or with a partner. Atlantic City Trip

Whether you like to play the slots, sit at the blackjack tables or stroll on the boardwalk, a fun-filled day awaits on Monday, April 22, 2013. The bus leaves the Community Campus, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison, at 8:45 a.m., travels to Showboat Casino and leaves Atlantic City at 5pm. The cost is $27/person and entitles you to a Casino Bonus. All those 18 years of age or older are welcome. Advance registration is recommended and choice of bus seat is made at time of payment.
