LINDEN — The Kiwanis Club of Linden welcomed spring by hosting a “Taste of Linden” fundraiser to benefit the city’s victims of Hurricane Sandy. With around 300 attendees, the event raised approximately $5,000 through sponsorships, donations, and a 50/50 raffle.
Thanks to Home Depot, who donated door prizes, and the lucky winners took home items such as a lantern and storage shelves. To stick with this theme, there were representatives present from FEMA, the Red Cross, and the American Heart Association, and information was provided by The Small Business Administration. The City of Linden was represented by members of the Recreation Department, Friends of Linden Library, LINCS and Mayor Richard Gerbounka.
“It is events like this that make me so proud to be mayor – Linden truly is a community that cares about each other,” Gerbounka said, thanking the club for coordinating the event.
To enlighten our community about Kiwanis, the club presented a slide show of photos from previous events such as past Halloween fundraiser walks with the K-Kids to raise monies for Children Specialized Hospital.
Linden High School Key Club Members helped make the evening a success by preparing the tables and serving the drinks, then cleaning up afterward.
The Kiwanis Club of Linden recognized “Taste of Linden” sponsors for supporting the LINCS Hurricane Sandy Fund: Gold Sponsor – Infineum USA L.P. Silver Sponsors – Columbia Bank, DuPont Morses Mill Plant, The Fig Leaf Insurance Agency, NuStar, and Sovereign Bank. Bronze Sponsors – Billick & Sons Inc., Community Financial Services, St. George Family Pharmacy, Primerica, Phillips 66 Bayway Refinery, Unity Bank, and Verizon Wireless MR Communications.
The club also thanked the following businesses for sharing their time, expertise, and allowing the community to savor many flavors: Bella Gina’s, Chevy’s, Park Avenue Deli, Linden House Diner, Father & Son, New One Inc./Dunkin Donuts Bakery, The Linwood, Medley’s, Primavera’s, Southern Smokehouse, Pizza Town, Sam’s Club, and III Amici Ristorante.
