LINDEN – Brianna Armstead, a Linden High School sophomore, was sworn in last week as a member of the Juvenile Conference Committee.

The Juvenile Conference Committee represents a partnership between the Judiciary and the citizenry of New Jersey to provide expanded services to youth at risk. Committee members hear cases involving juveniles charged with delinquencies under the jurisdiction of the Family Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey.

This volunteer program not only saves judge time, it helps build the collaboration between the court and the community and provides the opportunity for focused intervention for youth and families within the community of residence.

Armstead, daughter of Councilman Derek Armstead, is serving as the student representative for Linden. She was officially sworn in on March 20 by Judge Karen Cassidy at the Union County Courthouse in Elizabeth. Cassidy thanked the volunteers from all over Union County for their time and commitment to serve their respective communities.
