TRENTON – Roselle Catholic beat St. Joseph (Metuchen) 65-49 to claim the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions title Tuesday night in a game played at Sun National Bank Center in Trenton.
Roselle Catholic finished the season with a 25-5 record, rebounding from an upset loss that knocked them out of the Union County Tournament in the quarterfinals last month.
Malachi Richardson led the scoring with 22 points; Tyler Roberson scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds, and Hakim Saintil and Asante Gist each scored eight points for Roselle Catholic, in the school’s first Tournament of Champions appearance.
St. Joseph finished the season with a 27-5 record. Marques Towns scored 17 points, Wade Baldwin scored 13, and Karl Towns scored seven, including his 1,000th career point.
Despite the lopsided final score, St. Joseph trailed by just one point midway through the third quarter before Roselle Catholic rallied to seal their victory.
