LINDEN — A 91-year-old man was injured during a robbery of home on the 2000 block of Ingalls Avenue on Monday night, police said.
The victim told police that a young, light-skinned man rang his doorbell at approximately 9 p.m. The suspect asked the victim if he could use his phone, and the victim allowed him into the house. The robber then pulled out a butcher knife and demanded money from the victim. The Linden senior handed over his wallet and cell phone, but the robber struck him on the head with the butt of his knife before fleeing.
The victim tried to call 9-1-1 on his house phone, but found it wasn’t working. He went outside and stopped a passing motorist for assistance. The victim was taken to University Hospital in Newark for treatment of a non-life-threatening head injury, police said.
Detective Ken Mikolajczyk of the Linden Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation of the crime. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the detective at 1-908-474-8542 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
