CLARK — Mayor Sal Bonaccorso has issued a proclamation declaring May 2013 Preeclampsia Awareness Month.

“May is National Preeclampsia Awareness Month, deliberately chosen to coincide with Mother’s Day,” explained Preeclampsia Foundation Executive Director Eleni Tsigas. “Almost 300,000 women each year are affected by preeclampsia, with approximately 25 percent of those resulting in serious adverse outcomes to mother, baby, or both.”

Larry Bloomstein (formerly of Livingston) and his infant daughter are the 2013 Mission Family. As this year’s face of preeclampsia (a life-threatening disorder of pregnancy) for the Cranford area walk, which will be held on May 19 at Oak Ridge Park in Clark, Bloomstein will lead the Promise Walk campaign by sharing his story and encouraging teams around the state to meet or exceed their fundraising goals, along with mother-daughter Walk Coordinator team, Stephanie and Marissa Steiner (of Springfield).
