SAYREVILLE — An Old Bridge man was charged with the murder of a 65-year-old Sayreville resident who was killed in his home Saturday morning, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Chief John Zebrowski of the Sayreville Police Department announced.
Robert McGranahan, 26, also was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose following the death of Edward Demko Jr., who was found in his home, the apparent victim of a stabbing.
Police began an investigation after receiving a call at 2:37 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, and responded to Mr. Demko’s home at 29 Giera Court in Sayreville. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:09 a.m.
At about 4 a.m., McGranahan went to Old Bridge Police headquarters and later was taken to the Sayreville Police Department and was charged with murder.
An investigation by Sgt. Thomas Cassidy of the Sayreville Police Department and Investigator Scott Crocco of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the defendant and the victim were acquaintances and that the apparent stabbing was not a random act.
Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the crime to call Sgt. Cassidy of the Sayreville Police Department at 1-732-525-5427, or Investigator Crocco of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 1-732-745-4471.
The charges against McGranahan are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
