EDISON — A seminar to prepare K-12 substitute teachers is being held at Middlesex County College this spring. The four-evening program is aimed at both prospective substitutes as well as those currently employed.
Classes are Thursday evenings, April 11, 18, 25 and May 2 from 6-9 p.m.
“This class will give you constructive ideas on how to approach the classroom as a substitute,” said Kimberlee Hooper, director of school relations at the college. “It offers an overview of classroom management, how to make a positive first impression, effective lesson plans, and discipline. You will also review the required paperwork to apply.”
Qualifications to be a substitute include a minimum of 60 earned college credits, passing a criminal background check, and evidence of a negative Mantoux (TB) test.
The cost of the program is $200. For more information, contact the Office of School Relations at 1-732-548-6000, ext. 3144.
