PLAINFIELD — The world-renowned Morehouse College Glee Club, under the baton of Dr. David Morrow, will be presented in concert at the United Presbyterian Church, 525 E. Front Street, Plainfield, on Monday, March 18, at 7:30 in the evening.
The Glee Club’s musical legacy spans more than one hundred years and has included performances throughout the United States and internationally, including: Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda and other African Countries, as well as Russia, Poland, France and other European Countries. Acclaimed for its high standard of musical excellence, the Glee Club has performed with musical legends such as Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Nancy Wilson, Gloria Estefan, as well as with famed soprano, Jessye Norman.
Dr. David Morrow is the third conductor of the Glee Club. His accomplishments include popular choral arrangements of spirituals, and other African American folk music. Dr. Morrow’s works were published by Alfred Music Publishers, Hal Leonard Music, Oxford University Press and GIA Music Publishers. His predecessor, Dr. Wendell P. Whalum, is well known for his arrangements of Negro Spirituals; many such works are substantially represented in the current Presbyterian Hymnal.
Tickets for the March 18th. performance are $25.00 and are available at the United Presbyterian Church office Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, (908) 756-2666 or can be purchased at the door. Concert proceeds will support the Crawford-Walton Scholarship Fund of the United Presbyterian Church of Plainfield. The Fund provides assistance to students at the undergraduate level.
