LINDEN — Eight Linden Pre-K teachers have achieved official endorsement as Tools of the Mind teachers. The program is based on the work of Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky, who believed that just as physical tools help people extend their abilities to achieve tasks, mental tools are needed extend mental abilities to enable people to solve problems and create solutions in the modern world.

To achieve endorsement, a teacher must have implemented the Tools of the Mind curriculum for two years with fidelity and completed a lengthy process that involves videotaping and a critique their teaching ability. The teacher must also have demonstrated knowledge of the Vygotskian theory and a deep knowledge of assessment techniques as well as the use of data to scaffold instruction.
