METUCHEN — The 2012-2013 Edgar Boys Basketball became the first in school history to complete a perfect season. Edgar went 14 – 0 this year and proved to be one the most complete and dynamic teams in Middlesex County.
The season was highlighted by wins versus rivals Milltown, Spotswood, and Hoover in Edison. Edgar trailed their opponents only one time the entire season, a game against powerhouse Carteret. Edgar showed resiliency by erasing a 14-point deficit in the final 10 minutes of the game.
The Metuchen boys finished off the perfect season by defeating previously unbeaten South Amboy 56-50. In this classic battle of the unbeatens, Edgar did what it had done all season long – shared the basketball on the offensive end with impressive passing and a tenacious full-court pressure defense to create timely turnovers.
The 2012-2013 team members include:eighth graders Mitchel Epstein, Kyle Harry, Devin Miller, Mike Farr, Danny Flaherty, Nick Loffredo, Derek Shapiro, Jon Hoffman, Colin Gaven and Justin Briggs as well as seventh graders Daniel Russell, Daniel Petto, Riley Watkins and Diuij Gupta.
