CLARK — While studying the novel Manaic Magee, students in Olivia Gerlitz’s fifth grade class at Valley Road School in Clark wrote news articles to highlight the amazing feats of the main character, Jeffery. Using the program Pages on the Macbook laptops, students were assigned to creatively illustrate an event of the novel as if it were happening in the present tense. Working with their reading partner, the children worked together to write a two paragraph article, including important facts and details from the novel. Each article also included pictures and captions to bring the news article to life. The students enjoyed posing as news anchors and presenting their articles their classmates.
