NEW BRUNSWICK — Jackson Browne will perform a concert at the State Theatre in New Brunswick on Tuesday, July 2 at 8 p.m. with special guest Sara Watkins . Tickets, ranging from $49-$119, go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 1.
Playing guitar and piano, Browne will perform songs from his entire body of work. His hits include “Running on Empty,” “Somebody’s Baby,” “Stay,” “Doctor My Eyes,” and “These Days.” Singer-songwriter and fiddle player Sara Watkins will open the acoustic tour as a special guest. The show features multiple collaborations between the two acts throughout the set.
Browne was honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2007. Beyond his music, he is known for his advocacy on behalf of the environment, human rights, and arts education. He’s a co-founder of the groups Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE), Nukefree.org, and Success through the Arts Foundation, which provides education opportunities for students in South Los Angeles.
Watkins first gained recognition as a founding member of the Grammy® Award-winning trio Nickel Creek. Sun Midnight Sun, the second solo album from acclaimed singer, songwriter, and fiddle player will be released May 8 on Nonesuch Records. Produced by guitarist, singer, and songwriter Blake Mills, co-founder of the band Simon Dawes, the album features special guest appearances by Fiona Apple, Jackson Browne, Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Benmont Tench, and Sean Watkins.
“I’m really excited to have Sara joining me on this tour,” says Browne. “We’ve played together a number of times in the last few years, sometimes on her show and sometimes mine, and it’s always been a thrill for me. I’m floored by her amazing instrumental virtuosity and by her beautiful voice, and most of all, I love her songs.”
Watkins and her band joined Browne last year on his 2012 tour.
