EDISON – Mayor Antonia Ricigiliano has some competition in her bid for a second term. Councilman Tom Lankey has also expressed interest in the mayor’s office.
Edison’s 156-member Democratic Committee will select the candidate who will receive the backing of the regular political organization.
A lifelong resident of Edison, Lankey, 52, says that the township needs better financial planning. Ricigliano, 73, a longtime councilwoman before becoming mayor, is seeking to improve Edison sewer system and begin a township beautification project.
The deadline for candidates interested in the mayoral position on the regular political organization ticket is on Feb. 26, but candidates seeking their party’s nomination have until April 1 to file their petitions to appear on the June 4 primary election ballot.
