CLARK — Miss Franko’s Earth Science classes at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School in Clark have been learning about minerals. In the recent weeks they have discussed the ways to identify an unknown mineral by using its color, hardness, streak, luster, and they way in which it breaks. To practice these properties and to find out which property is the best determinate of a mineral they conducted a lab over the course of two days. In the lab they chose from a selection of unknown minerals and used the properties they learned about to conduct tests. Using the information they found out they referred to an identification sheet to put a name to their unknown mineral.
