ELIZABETH — Union County Superior Court Judge Joseph P. Donohue sentenced three Plainfield men to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison for a series of armed robbery and weapons offenses, announced Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

According to Assistant Prosecutor Joshua F. McMahon, who handled the prosecution, Nestor Delgadillo, 20, Gustavo Alasdiaz, 24, and Kevin Veliz, 19, were working as an organized robbery crew and committed two separate armed robberies in both Scotch Plains and Springfield on back to back nights in November  2011. During the first robbery of the Quik Check in Scotch Plains, two of the men entered armed with handguns and proceeded to rob the store employees while brandishing the firearm. The men were able to escape with the third man driving a getaway vehicle.

The following night, the men entered the 7-Eleven on Route 22 in Springfield, again brandishing firearms, and proceeded to rob that store, going as far as stealing the actual cash drawers from the registers. Springfield Police Officer Brian Trotman managed to locate the three men as they again fled in a getaway vehicle before taking all three of the armed men into custody.

Further investigation has linked the robbery crew to several robberies out of Middlesex County for which they have been separately indicted by that jurisdiction.
