PERTH AMBOY – Rev. Dr. Lee Spitzer, executive minister of American Baptist Churches of New Jersey, will be the guest speaker at Cathedral International’s 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday service on Feb. 13.
Cathedral International church participates in the Christian tradition of observing Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. In two services, at noon and 7 p.m., ashes will be distributed in the marking of the forehead, a sign of repentance and humility. Lent is a period of 40 days that precedes Easter.
Spitzer is the author of Making Friends, Making Disciples (Judson Press, 2010), which explores the pivotal role friendship plays in support of the church’s mission to make disciples and evangelize. He was previously pastor of First Baptist Church, Lincoln, Neb., the Seaview Baptist Church in Linwood, and the First Baptist Church in East Providence, R.I. before assuming his current position.
Cathedral International’s noon service will be held at the Cathedral Chapel, 205 Smith Street, Perth Amboy. The 7 p.m. service will be held at the Cathedral Sanctuary, 277 Madison Avenue, Perth Amboy. The church invites everyone to attend.
