Breast Cancer Awareness RibbonsEDISON — Middlesex County College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will be supporting breast cancer awareness on Friday, Feb. 15 as they face their rival, Ocean County College. The women’s game is at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s contest follows at 7:30 p.m.

“This is an annual event to show our support and raise funds for breast cancer research,” said Carey Monkowski, assistant athletic director at Middlesex. “The men’s and women’s teams from both schools will wear pink warmup t-shirts and wristbands and members of the Middlesex softball squad will hold a bake sale and collect donations for cancer research. The program is part of ‘Pink Zone,’ a national effort to raise awareness and funds, organized by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.”

Before the women’s game, Delores Scolamiero, a local cancer survivor, will participate in a ceremonial tipoff.

“Plus, we will have raffles for donated items from Home Depot, the Somerset Patriots, Muscle Maker Grill and Hooters,” Monkowski said. “I hope people will come out to support our athletes and cancer awareness.”
