Booster Club Raises Funds For Athletic Program

Swhoop-BC-2EDISON — The Booster Club’s annual “sWHoop-a-thon” provided fun and excitement for The Wardlaw-Hartridge School community on Saturday, Jan. 26. The baseball, basketball, cheerleading and swim teams held clinics and gave lessons in the morning. Students shot free throws and swam laps to raise money.

Youngsters of all ages played basketball games and tested their pitching arms for velocity on the radar gun in Laidlaw Gym. The Booster Club sold school apparel and provided food and refreshments.

The highlight of the day was the highly anticipated basketball game between the Booster Club and Board of Trustees in Laidlaw Gym. The Booster Club, behind an outstanding performance by Dat Phan of Metuchen, prevailed by a 47-42 score in an entertaining contest for the many fans in attendance. Booster Club president Jeff Downing of Scotch Plains fielded a team that also included Jim Olano of South Plainfield, Joel Sherman of Plainfield, Laurence McCray and Cassandra McCray of Union, Mike Jesionka of Middlesex, Nelson Cabrera of Carteret and Karl Miran of Piscataway.

The Board of Trustees team consisted of Rob Rizzo of Scotch Plains, Greg Casagrande of Summit, Anthony D’Amore of Scotch Plains, Andy Webster of Edison, Mike Howell of Piscatway, Ryan Oliveira of Middletown, Emerson Barbosa, Allen Everhart of North Plainfield and Rudy Brandl of Fanwood.
