NJ Youth Symphony Will Play At Jersey Gardens Sunday

ELIZABETH — About 350 young musicians, all members of New Jersey Youth Symphony (NJYS), will perform as one orchestra at Jersey Gardens Center Court in Elizabeth on Sunday, Feb. 3 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Honoring a 29-year tradition, students ranging in age from 8 to 19 will participate together in the annual NJYS Playathon under the direction of Artistic Director Jeffrey Grogan. The Playathon is free and open to the public.

NJYS will play popular and beloved music from “Harry Potter”, “Les Miserables”, “Lord of the Rings”, “Empire Strikes Back”, and “Phantom of the Opera” as well as other favorites.

The Playathon is NJYS’s largest fundraising event where students raise money from family, friends, and area businesses such as their orthodontists and the local pizzeria. Every NJYS student pitches in to play during the Playathon and NJYS ensembles raise money through special events like bake sales, chamber music performances, and other student-led activities.

The public is invited to join in the fun and listen to great music while supporting one of New Jersey’s largest youth orchestras. Jersey Gardens Mall is located at 651 Kapkowski Road in Elizabeth.
