CLARK — Students in Christine Cemelli’s fourth grade class at Valley Road School in Clark explore the regions in New Jersey during Reader’s Workshop. The students met with their reading partners, and read about the physical and geographical characteristics of the state they live in. The class has been working with nonfiction texts during their Reader’s Workshop, and had the opportunity to use the new skills they learned to better understand their new social studies unit on New Jersey. Cemelli said, “The students were excited to learn about the different regions, and features, found within the state they live in. They had a purpose while reading, which helped with their comprehension.” Students Natalie DeRose and Michael Karnaugh are pictured above. (Photo courtesy of Clark Public Schools)
