CLARK — Students in Christine Cemelli’s fourth grade class at Valley Road School in Clark identify text features in non-fiction texts. The students created non-fiction text feature booklets using their Scholastic News magazines. During Reader’s Workshop, the class read an articles and used the text features they just learned about to help understand the text. After reading, the class cut out examples of each text feature and glued them into their booklets. Cemelli states, “The booklets were a great way for the students to pick out text features from different nonfiction texts. They were able to explore their magazines with a deeper understanding.” Pictured above are Danielle Knapp, Mike Noone, Alyssa Grandal, and Andre Warszawa. (Photo courtesy of Clark Public Schools)
