CLARK — Students in Miss Faro’s mathematics classes at the Carl H. Kumpf School in Clark are learning about scale drawings and similar figures. As a class, they have investigated many maps to find the different scales and solve problems finding the distance, in miles, between cities. Using only a ruler, students had to create shapes similar by setting a scale and consistently using it. They were allowed to create any shape they would like, as long at it was drawn to scale. A few groups drew their similar figures on the board and left certain measurements unlabeled Students from the other classes had to find the measurements using a ruler and then calculate the scale factor. When asked, the class said they believe learning about scale drawings will be helpful when using a map and creating models.
