[PHOTOS] 4th Graders Learn About Energy

RAHWAY – Mrs. Prakapas’s fourth grade students at Roosevelt School in Rahway recently began a new science kit, Matter and Energy. The students learned that energy is at work everywhere, identified different sources of energy, and ways energy can be transferred.

Paraprofessional Mrs. Krongold guides Shaniye Stockley, Christian Volpe, Andrew Fernandez, Yasmeen May, and Stefany Martinez as they discover that energy in muscles converts into movement and heat. (Photos courtesy of Roosevelt School)

With a tone generator, Justin Quelopana found that chemical energy in batteries can be converted into sound, movement, and vibration. (Photos courtesy of Roosevelt School)

Energy was transferred through the hand and moved through the spring toy by Julie Schroeder, Kailey Beckford, and Gabby Fuller. (Photos courtesy of Roosevelt School)

Taylor White, Gina DelBene, and Gianna Muschiatti realized the vibrating speaker pushed on the air in pulses called waves which moved through the air and made the rice in the bag move. (Photos courtesy of Roosevelt School)
