CLARK — In Meghan Zampella’s class at Valley Road School in Clark kindergartners experienced Jan Brett’s book The Mitten. After reading the book, students were assigned roles of different animals. The story was retold and when their assigned animal was mentioned they came up to the front of the room and had to fit inside the mitten (a sheet they wrapped around their shoulders) with their classmates just like the animals in the story. When the bear sneezed and all the animals came out the students sneezed her jumped out. Afterward students created their own reader to use to retell the story and laced a large mitten that they put each animal in. Pictured above are students standing in the mitten holding up their animal character as they act out the book.
