CLARK — While reading The Princess Bride by William Goldman and learning persuasive writing, students in Miss Wegbreit’s seventh grade Language Arts class at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School in Clark created campaign commercials to showcase their knowledge of persuasive techniques.

Each group was to create a script with dialogue and stage directions for their one to five minute commercial. In the commercial, the students had to promote each of their group members as the best candidates for the desired leadership positions of Florin, the fictional country of the novel that the students have been tasked with recreating. Students had to include logical and emotional appeals in order to persuade their audience to vote for them. Those who were the most persuasive will become the true leaders of the class’s Florin.
