CLARK – Seven students at Frank K. Hehnly Elementary School were nominated and honored with awards for making a difference at their school. The entire staff participates in the nominations by choosing students who show extraordinary behavior. It can be showing compassion, being a leader, taking chances or even being extra curious.
Every marking period the teachers submit students’ names along with an explanation about the special trait they showed. Letters are sent out to the parents inviting them to come to school for a surprise ceremony. The students are not told until that day why their parents have been notified to come to school. Principal Shirley Bergin, presents them with a certificate, special button, and an explanation about how they made a difference at their school.
