Linden Police Arrest 7 In Nightclub Fight

LINDEN – Police arrested seven suspects after breaking up a fight at a nightclub on West Edgar Road early Saturday morning. One police officer was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – Rahway to be treated for a knee injury.

Police responded to the Dragonfly, an Asian fusion restaurant that operates as a nightclub during the evening, at 2:10 a.m. on Jan. 19 after receiving a report of a fight. Bouncers told the arriving officers that the crowd was unruly and wanted the club cleared of all patrons.

As the officers began moving approximately 200 patrons into the parking lot and attempting to disperse the crowd, several fistfights broke out and the officers called for mutual aid. The crowd was eventually broken up, with police using pepper spray to disperse the patrons.

Joshua M. Williams,  22, of Roselle was charged with aggravated assault on an officer, resisting arrest, and a contempt warrant out of Roselle.

Melissa C. Coy,  25, of Elizabeth was charged with riot, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and aggravated assault on an officer.

Chad S. Hill,  22, of Linden; Jerome Calhoun, 26, of Matawan; Tyron Diejuste, 21, of Roselle; and Mark A. Myers, 24, of Elizabeth were all charged with riot, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. Myers also had contempt warrants out of Linden and Cranford.

Ryan S. Lapierre,  26, of Elizabeth was charged with riot, disorderly conduct, and contempt warrants out of Elizabeth and Clark.

All defendants were held on bail pending a court date. The charges against them are merely accusations and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
