PERTH AMBOY — Police are warning residents that Perth Amboy has recently experienced a rash of burglaries, 13 of which occurred during the daytime.

“One of the tactics being used is where the suspect rings or knocks on the front door and if it is answered by the home owner the suspect will ask random questions in an attempt to divert the owner’s attention so that the burglary can be committed,” according to the advisory message issued today.

Authorities are asking citizens to call police if they notice strangers around their homes or their neighbors’ homes. The Perth Amboy Police Department’s non-emergency number is 1-732-442-4400. In an emergency, residents should dial 9-1-1.
