CLARK — The eighth grade students in Mrs. McGeehan and Ms. Drasin’s eighth grade math class at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School in Clark are working with scientific notation and making connections between math and science. The unit began by explaining that we use scientific notation to represent very large and very small numbers like the weight of a planet or the weight of a molecule. The students were able to make connections to what they are learning about chemistry in their science classes. Since then, the students have learned how to compare these numbers as well as how to add, subtract, multiply and divide them. They will continue to use scientific notation throughout their math and science classes in high school and beyond.
