CLARK — As a culminating assessment, sixth grade students in Mrs. Babis’ and Ms. Casale’s language arts classes at Carl H. Kumpf School in Clark created board games based on the novels read in their literature circles. Students met in their circles weekly to discuss a novel of their choosing. Upon completion of the novel, students created a game to demonstrate their understanding of the core literary elements including character, setting, conflict, and solution. In addition, students created advertisements for their games as part of a unit on persuasive writing. They had to consider their target audience as well as use persuasive strategies to market their product. All of the students enjoyed the project.
