DYLAN GOES “ELECTRIC”…!!!
Those words may not seem like much now, but back in the 60s, those three little words sent shock waves through the folk community…(As one critic so aptly states, “Dylan was ‘God’…and ‘God’ changed his mind…”)
But he didn’t do it by himself…he had a little help from his friends, collectively known as ‘The Band’…and a new documentary entitled “Bob Dylan And The Band: Down In The Flood”, doesn’t focus so much just on Dylan’s momentous decision, but it explores The Band’s time with Dylan, along with their own history, before and after they collaborated with ‘God’.
Chock full of interviews with members of The Band, as well as rock journalists, and other fellow musicians, this DVD is unique in approaching this documentary, devoted to The Band’s legacy and point of view…and it’s a view worth watching.
Known primarily for their biggest hits, “The Weight” and “The Night The Drove Old Dixie Down”, The Band started out primarily as backing band for rockabilly star Ronnie Hawkins (who is also interviewed), went onto Dylan, and then, eventually, ended up at “The Last Waltz”, their final live show (…which is also a brilliant filmed live concert).
This documentary is the start to finish and everything in-between, of a band that doesn’t get enough airtime, other than as Dylan’s sidekicks.
And don’t be disappointed by the ‘Dylan’ moniker being a misnomer…there is plenty for the Dylan fan here to soak up with delight, and a flood of moments for every music fan to completely drown in.
