JERSEY CITY — The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has honored five members of the 2012 New Jersey City University softball program as scholar-athletes for the 2011-12 academic year, including students from Elizabeth and Carteret.
The award is presented to any player who achieved a combined 3.50 grade point average or better during the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters.
Then freshman Jessica Chandler (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) led the Gothic Knights on the academic side with a perfect 4.000 grade point average in both semesters last year while two-year starting pitcher and outfielder Jess Mucerino (Whippany/Whippany Park), a 2011-12 Second-Team Academic All-New Jersey Athletic Conference honoree, posted a two-semester 3.844 GPA.
