Remembering the Past by Diane Norek Harrisonby Diane Norek Harrison

After my Aug. 17, 2012 column with the picture of Dugan’s truck, I received the following: “I came across your picture of Dugan’s Bakery truck in your column. My mother recently spoke about the truck and how they would bring Christmas Stollen, mince and meat pies to my grandmother in Jersey City. My mom thought Dugan’s was bought out by Entenmann’s.”

WOODBRIDGE-Here is another old business from Gerald Bertekap. La Mode Hairdressers was owned by Helen Cherris.

PERTH AMBOY-Memories from Mike Balsamides: “Enjoyed your Perth Amboy memories. I grew up in the city during the 1930s and 1940s. We had a family of six. Have some great memories of those times. Cooney Island and Crystal restaurants. Boston Candy Kitchen-worked there with my four sisters and brother during Easter selling all the chocolate and eggs that were made in the back room by a wonderful woman, Mrs. Dadouras.”

Hoping to hear your memories to fill my 2013 columns!
