Class Could Let You Turn Your Passion For Photography Into A Paycheck

CRANFORD — If you enjoy taking pictures, learn how you can turn your passion into an income-generating business through a new non-credit certificate program at Union County College. Even if you just take pictures as a hobby, there are important techniques you can learn to improve your picture-taking abilities to get started.

The class will be taught by David Wiener, M.A., a certified teacher and wedding photographer who has photographed over 600 weddings, including celebrity weddings. This course uses weddings as the place to begin a part-time business and will cover how to photograph models, families, seniors, and events such as Sweet Sixteen parties, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, and anniversaries.

Students will learn how to expand into a successful photography business. Additional topics include: equipment and its use; detailed photographic coverage of events; photography styles (such as photojournalism, portraiture, candid, and formal); sales; promotion; pricing and bookkeeping; album creation; and Photoshop and Elements basics. This course emphasizes a hands-on and demonstration approach to help develop a photographic style, knowledge, confidence and competence in the exciting world of professional photography.
