Elizabeth Man Arrested For Allegedly Selling Heroin In Perth Amboy

PERTH AMBOY – Police arrested a 44-year-old Elizabeth man who was allegedly selling heroin in the downtown area of Perth Amboy.

Jose Torres was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone and resisting arrest. Torres was held on a parole violation from a prior manslaughter conviction.

On Friday, Nov. 30 at approximately 10:26 am, after receiving information about an individual selling heroin in the downtown area, Detective Mohamed Mohamed of the Perth Amboy Police Department’s Special Investigations Bureau with the assistance of Detective Marcos Valera and Officer Liza Capo of the Detective Bureau came into contact with Torres in on the 200 block of New Brunswick Avenue.

Torres was in possession of 31 decks of heroin worth an estimated $310 along with $1,297 in cash, according to police. After a struggle, Torres was secured and placed under arrest.

The charges against Torres are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
