[PHOTO] Eighth Graders Build A Model City

CLARK — The eighth grade students in Mrs. McGeehan and Ms. Drasin’s math class at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School in Clark have been working with the distance formula, midpoint formula, and the Pythagorean Theorem. Today they used their knowledge to create their own model city. Each city needed to contain certain elements like schools, a police department and a city hall. The students were also encouraged to come up with more building to add to their city. The distance between the buildings had to fit certain specifications, and the students used the distance and midpoint formula as well as the Pythagorean Theorem to find those distances. The students were extremely creative with this project. Some students created a Disneyland type city, while others simply added their favorite places to their cities. In the picture above, Alyse Wilson, Gabrielle Kaczan, Ryan Mendyk, and Cameron Hund put the finishing touches on their own version of Disneyland. (Photo courtesy of Clark Public Schools)
