METUCHEN – Today, Democratic gubernatorial candidate and state Sen. Barbara Buono (D-Metuchen) announced the endorsement of all seven Middlesex County Freeholders. The announcement, coming less than two weeks after Buono informally kicked-off her campaign, is the latest in a string of key endorsements for Buono.

“Barbara Buono has what it takes to turn our state’s economy around, improve educational opportunity, and deliver real relief to New Jersey property taxpayers,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Director Chris Rafano. “I’ve known Barbara a long time, and she’s exactly the kind of progressive reformer we need to give working and middle-class families the voice they need from the very top in Trenton. As an immigrant’s daughter, working mom, and former Budget Chair, she understands what Governor Christie has failed to see: that everyday New Jersey residents are struggling, and fighting for their jobs, schools, and pocketbooks is more important than tax cuts for millionaires.”

Led by Rafano, the Middlesex County Freeholders also include Ronald G. Rios, Blanquita B. Valenti, Carol Barrett Bellante, H. James Polos, Stephen J. “Pete” Dalina, and Charles E. Tomaro.

Last week, Middlesex County Democratic Organization Chairman Peter Barnes, along with Middlesex County state legislators, mayors, and community leaders, became the first to endorse Buono’s candidacy. Earlier this week, Somerset County Democratic Chair Peg Schaffer also endorsed Buono.
