CLARK — Students in Ms. Grigoli’s class at Valley Road School in Clark concluded a unit on gingerbread men by creating gingerbread houses. As a class, various gingerbread stories were read and compared. These stories included “The Gingerbread Man,” “The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School,” “The Gingerbread Baby,” and “Gingerbread Friends.”
In the story “Gingerbread Baby,” the main character Matti creates a gingerbread house to capture the gingerbread baby that was running around the town. Students were told to create their own gingerbread house for the gingerbread baby to live in. The gingerbread house base was created by recycled milk cartons. Students used frosting, candy, and cereal to create their houses. With the help of parent volunteers, the activity was a huge success and a fun culminating activity to kick off the holidays.
