STATE –  The shooter allegedly responsible for at least 26 deaths at a Connecticut elementary school today has ties to New Jersey.

The New York Post is identifying Adam Lanza, 20, as the gunman, and said that police are questioning his older brother, Ryan, 24, who lives in Hoboken but is not a suspect.

The gunman killed at least 18 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. in one of the worst school shootings in American history. He was killed at the scene.

“What happened today in Newtown is every parent’s gravest fear,” said New Jersey state Sen. Barbara Buono. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, particularly those who face the unspeakable heartache of losing a child to such senseless violence. Connecticut’s loss will be felt all across the country, and Americans will stand together to comfort the grieving families and take steps to ensure a tragedy like this isn’t repeated.”
