RAHWAY—The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s Greater Newark Youth Orchestras will present their 23rd annual Winter Party & Concert on Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway.
The event features the Greater Newark Youth Orchestra (GNYO), Greater Newark Chamber Orchestra (GNCO) and Greater Newark Violin Ensemble (GNVE). The program showcases the student musicians of the youth ensembles in a concert perfect for the whole family.
GNYO, under the baton of NJSO Education & Community Engagement Conductor Jeffrey Grogan, will perform Verdi’s Nabucco Overture, the first movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, the Berceuse and Finale from Stravinsky’s The Firebird (1919) and Anderson’s Sleigh Ride.
GNCO conductor Henry Kao, an NJSO violist, conducts the chamber orchestra in Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik, K. 525. GNVE, led by NJSO first violinist Naomi Youngstein, will perform Telemann’s Dance Suite in G, Pleyel’s Rondo and Wieniawski’s Dudziarz (The Country Fiddler).
The Union County Performing Arts Center is located at 1601 Irving Street in Rahway. The concert starts at 4 p.m. The pre-concert party, which will feature a photo booth, face painting, a magician and live music, begins at 3 p.m. Ticketholders will also enjoy complimentary cookies and juice.
