JERSEY CITY — The freshman Cross Country team at Saint Peter’s Prep has enjoyed a successful season and several local residents are on the roster. Billy Fitzpatrick of Westfield and James Wright of Fanwood, graduates of Holy Trinity Interparochial, are part of the freshman squad for the school, which is located in downtown Jersey City.

Fitzpatrick, son of Trish and Bill Fitzpatrick, placed first in the Jesuit Invitational Meet at Van Cortlandt Park, setting a school record. Earlier this year he broke an 18-year-old record at the Saint Dominic Invitational in Jersey City and placed 8th out of over 780 runners in the Manhattan Invitational. He ran 17:04 in his first Varsity race at the South Hudson Championships.

Wright, son of Susanne Wright and the late James Wright, has been the consistent fourth man on the team, setting a personal best with each race.

Robert E. Reiser, SJ, President of Prep said of winning the freshmen division in the Jesuit Championships: “This victory has special meaning for us at Saint Peter’s Prep for two reasons. As a Jesuit school, one in 59 in the United States, I am proud to come away victorious from our brother-schools. I am also impressed that our freshmen have competed and have found success among some of the best programs on the East Coast.”
