METUCHEN — On Wednesday, Nov. 28, students at Campbell Elementary School in Metuchen were treated to a performance by the Brazilian jazz group Banda Urban. The group, from Sao Paulo, was sponsored by Dillion’s Music Shop in Woodbridge. The 14 musicians played trumpets, trombones, saxophones, electric basses, and drum set. Along with various jazz selections, the group explained and demonstrated the ‘samba’ beat, so essential to Brazilian music. This cross cultural experience included a bit of geography and an introduction to Portuguese phrases such as, “Good Day”, “Hi!”, and “Thank you” among others. Banda Urban provided high school students with a workshop and performance Monday evening. Pictured with Banda Urbana are Metuchen music instructor John B.
