PLAINFIELD — Like colorfully wrapped packages, the small-scale art works of 28 artists will decorate Swain Galleries in Plainfield for the annual “Christmas Miniatures” exhibit, Dec. 1 – 31.

The multi-media event will feature oils, watercolors, gouaches, pastels, charcoals, calligraphy and more. Landscapes, cityscapes, architecture, wildlife, still lifes are some of the subjects favored by the artists.

Ann Swain, proprietor of the art, framing and gift galleries owned by generations of her family for 144 years, noted that the smaller scale of art work reflects the tone and details for which the artists are already well known. At the same time, the pieces are framed and holiday ready.

Union County artists represented in the show include Alicia Lang of Clark, Paul Casale and Michael Ruple of Cranford, Paula Pearl of Fanwood, Judy Banyas and Charles Hahn of Roselle Park, Kat Block of Springfield and Max Sang of Westfield.

Christmas Miniatures opens with a reception on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 5-7 p.m. and continues Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4 p.m. at Swain Galleries, 703 Watchung Avenue, in the Crescent Historic District in Plainfield.
