Frustrated Robber Gives Up When Cash Register Won’t Open

PERTH AMBOY – Police are looking for a would-be robber who attempted to steal money from the Ideal Supermarket on Catherine Street, but got frustrated and stormed out of the store when the cash register wouldn’t open, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched to the supermarket at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25 to investigate the reported robbery attempt. The victim told police that an African-American man came into the store, brandished a handgun and demanded all of the money from the cash register. The suspect was last seen running north on Catherine Street.
