METUCHEN — On Wednesday, Nov. 21, students at Edgar Middle School in Metuchen enjoyed an assembly which introduced the sport of fencing. Two representatives from Hub City Fencing Academy, located in Edison, taught the students about this sport.
First the students learned about the rules and equipment. Then the representatives talked about the many scholarship opportunities available for fencing. Since fencing is an Olympic sport, most of the students had heard about it, but this assembly provided a detailed description, demonstration, and an opportunity to ask questions. The students learned that many U.S. Olympic fencers come from New Jersey.
The assembly came to close when the two representatives geared up and fought in a fencing bout. The students enjoyed the presentation and were motivated to find out more about this unique sport.
