CLARK — Arthur L. Johnson High School Media Specialist Kate Ryan has initiated a school-wide reading initiative.

“I’m always looking for new ways to inspire students to read. What better way than to have their teachers set an example?” said Ryan. “A love of reading and an exposure to different types of literature will help students succeed in every subject,” she adds.

The campaign involves having teachers and coaches pose individually for photographs holding a favorite book, magazine, or newspaper. Chris Marcin’s Graphic Design 2 class is turning the photographs into posters that will be displayed throughout the school.

Athletic coaches have been active participants in the reading campaign. Athletic Director Gus Kalikas said, “Our coaching staff here at Arthur L. Johnson High School truly wants to develop the entire student athlete. We work hard to improve the athletic skills of our student athletes on the fields, courts, and mats, while also working with them to continue to develop great students who are life-long readers and learners.”

Ryan hopes that the “Leaders Are Readers” campaign continues to grow and have a positive impact on ALJ students.
