LINDEN – A 22-year-old Elizabeth man was arrested Monday afternoon after he allegedly assaulted a 31-year-old Union Beach resident at the FEMA Tent City set up at the site of a former General Motors plant on West Edgar Road.

Anthony M. Urbaeznina was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon (a wood 2×4), and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was sent to the Union County Jail in lieu of $12,500 bail pending a court date.

Officers were sent to the site at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 to investigate the reported assault. Witnesses told police that Urbaeznina went up to the victim and beat him repeatedly with a wood 2×4 until he fell to the ground unconscious.

The Linden Fire Department ambulance and paramedics responded to treat the victim at the scene before transporting him to University Hospital in Newark.

The charges against Urbaeznina are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
