CLARK — Students in Christine Cemelli’s fourth grade class at Valley Road School in Clark use manipulatives to subtract during an Everyday Math lesson. The students learned different strategies to subtract multi-digit numbers and chose whichever strategy worked best for themselves. Cemelli said, “the students are enjoying using manipulatives in class and it assists with a deeper understanding of subtraction rules. After the lesson, the Everyday Math program encourages students to then use the skills taught and play educational games to master the strategies.” Students Danielle Knapp and Marisa Venturella are pictured above.
