STATE — The FEMA helpline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for New Jersey residents seeking information about federal disaster aid or to check the status of their applications.

The number to call is 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585. Those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS) should call 1-800-621-3362.

Registering is the first step toward eligibility. Once survivors are registered, they can receive answers to many of their questions concerning assistance and registration on the helpline.

When calling the helpline, disaster survivors can:

  • Get help in registering with FEMA for disaster assistance for damage to their residence and personal property, including household contents and automobiles.
  • Get information on food assistance and related resources.
  • Obtain Information on the status of their application for assistance.
  • Update their registration information.

Officials urge residents to visit a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center. FEMA staff and other specialists are available there to answer questions. A list of DRCs in New Jersey is accessible at http://asd.fema.gov/inter/locator/home.htm.
